Six things I work on
These are the commitments Carlos ran on in 2024 and the lens he uses for every vote on the Council. Votes and initiatives are logged, with sources, in the Council record.
The West Side first
District 2 covers Copperton, Herriman, Kearns, Magna, South Jordan, West Jordan and West Valley City. It is the fastest-growing and most diverse part of the county, and for years it has felt like an afterthought. Every county decision gets asked the same question: what does it do for the West Side?
Taxes and spending
Families on the West Side feel every increase in the property tax bill. Carlos favors holding the line on taxes and reining in spending, so county services stay effective without asking more from the people who pay for them.
An efficient county government
A county that does fewer things well beats one that does many things slowly. Carlos looks for duplicated programs, delays and layers that residents pay for and never see.
Public safety and law enforcement
Carlos backs the officers who patrol the West Side and works with law enforcement to close the gap between neighborhoods and police agencies. He has proposed a West Side Safety Advisory Committee to give residents a standing seat at that table.
Civic education and participation
Government answers to the people who show up. Carlos wants more residents, and especially more Latino families, to know how the county works, to attend meetings and to vote. His own materials are published in English and Spanish for that reason. Start with the civic guide.
Opportunities for youth
Safe places, programs and first jobs for the young people of the West Side, so that the next generation can build its future here.
